Teaching
Alongside her artistic practice, Toni is a passionate dance teacher and facilitator. Her work spans from preschool ballet to contemporary dance, always grounded in a commitment to creating inclusive, engaging, and supportive learning environments. She views teaching not just as a way to share technical knowledge, but as an opportunity to spark confidence, creativity, and joy in her students.
Toni has extensive experience teaching preschool ballet, delivering classes that are developmentally appropriate and accessible for a wide range of learning styles and physical abilities. Her aim is to introduce children to movement in a way that builds their confidence, self-esteem, and imagination. Each class follows a clear three-part structure: centre work, travelling work, and creative movement.
Centre work includes warm-ups and basic ballet technique such as pliés, tendus, port de bras, sways, sautés, retirés, arabesques, and pas de bourrées. These movements are taught with attention to technique and musicality. Travelling work gives students a chance to move across the space with activities like fairy runs, marching, skipping, pony trots, galloping, and grand jetés, building coordination and spatial awareness. The final part of the class is focused on creativity. Each week introduces a new theme, such as a day at the beach or in the jungle, to guide movement exploration through storytelling. This segment invites children to imagine and embody different environments and characters, such as tiptoeing through hot sand or stomping like elephants. This imaginative work is key to experimenting with different qualities and building expressive and confident movers.
Toni also supports students in preparing for performances and recitals, teaching routines and helping backstage and onstage to ensure a calm, positive experience. Her friendly and grounded presence helps young dancers feel safe and encouraged.
In addition to ballet, Toni teaches contemporary dance to all ages and levels. Her classes are delivered on a freelance basis and can be adapted to suit various contexts including schools, community groups, or dance studios. A typical session includes warm-up exercises, progressions travelling across the space, and centre phrases. She can also lead creative tasks such as guided improvisation or composition, and repertory sessions that give participants the opportunity to learn original choreography, exploring movement quality, dynamics, and intention.
As an active performer, Toni brings current industry knowledge into the studio. Her classes invite students to connect with their bodies, express themselves, and develop their understanding of dance. Whether working with preschoolers or teens, Toni is committed to creating spaces where everyone feels welcomed, supported, and inspired to move.
